Mont Blanc du Tacul with João Garcia, 12 Jun 2013

By admin - Posted on 12 June 2013

Today I had the pleasure to climb in the company of João Garcia, the portuguese greatest alpinist of all times (see here João Garcia in Wikipedia). Even if the weather wasn't the best, it was a good moment spent in the mountains.

We left from the Aiguille du Midi at 8h00 and we skied down to the Col du Midi. There was quite a few people in the mountains today. Routes like the Goulotte Cheré, Contamine Grisolle, Arete des Cosmiques, Traversée Pointe Lachenal and the Traversée de la Vallée Blanche were all busy.

We decided to go simple and we headed to the north face of the Mont Blanc du Tacul. We climbed all the face without removing our skis. The conditions are amazing for this time of the year.

When we got the last step before the summit (last 20m) we had to put the crampons on. No crampons = no summit. And despite the cloudy weather during all the climb, at this exact moment, the weather decided to clear a bit to allow us to take some photos… yeap… we were lucky!!!

After some photos on the summit, time for the funniest part… the ski down. It was also really funny to see João Garcia on skis. And he surprised me, he skis quite well.
We skied down exactly the same route that we took to go up. The snow was amazing and it felt really good to be back on skis.

Who would imagine that we would ski such good snow in Chamonix in mid June???
